Previously, Alan worked at Inktomi as a Unix Systems Architect. Originally from County Durham, England, he lived in Los Angeles while working at DreamWorks, and Surrey while working at ISS, and Inktomi in the UK. He is currently living in Foster City, California.

In his current job at a Bay Area company, Alan is a Senior System Administrator. He is responsible for the architecture of internal systems and software operations.

Alan is an experienced technologist with a very broad range of knowledge and skills. His specialties include systems architecture and network design, security management and response, and developing bespoke, robust code to support these endeavours.

Alan has been a member of the USENIX/SAGE community since 1995, attending a variety of the conferences sponsored by USENIX and SAGE. He has also been a graduate member of the BCS since 1994. Alan holds a CISSP certification as of January 2003.

In his spare time Alan continues to refine his advanced musical abilities on the organ, and cello.
